Go Behind The Curtain - BlogRadio Talk Show Interview

On March 27, I was interviewed by Kathy Barrett, founder and host of Behind The Curtain. As I started to explain the purpose of the show in this post, I realized that no one can say it better than Kathy herself. She describes her show in this way: “Behind the Curtain is a blogradio talk show about how we navigate down that not-so-yellow brick road of life, revealing what we discover about ourselves along the way. Life is something you shouldn’t have to do alone and what the show provides is a comfortable forum for people to feel connected and inspired while being entertained.  Our guest are individuals who are up to fascinating things in life, all with a similar goal  to contribute to our world in order to make it a better place to live for all of us…” Every Tuesday at noon EST, Kathy interviews people who are willing to have a candid conversation about how they faced their obstacles and discovered their true self on their journey to make...

Bullying In The Public Discourse Is Not Leadership

This article was posted in the Huffington Post March 14, 2012 -  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michele-hunt/bullying-in-the-public-di_b_1345225.html I hope you enjoy! Max De Pree, former CEO of Herman Miller constantly reminded those of us who served on the leadership team that “Leadership is a serious meddling in other peoples lives”. When I got too full of myself and used my position to dismiss or exclude people, Max would pull me aside and whisper - “Leaders don’t inflict pain, they bear it” . Those lessons took root. I feel compelled to write about what I can only characterize as the “Bullying” that is going on in the presidential race and in the United States Congress. Many are literally using the “bully pulpit” - to bully. They have gone far beyond political jostling - they are dampening the collective spirit of our country. We deserve better. Leaders need to be reminded that spreading hate and fear sets a poor example for our young people. Public servant lead...

A Tribute to My Parents in Celebration of Black History Month

Published in The Huffington Post - Life & Style Section under "Parents" on Fevruary 17, 2012 I am an unapologetic optimist, not because I see the world through rose-colored glasses or have Pollyannaish sensibilities, it's because I have been a student of DreamMakers all my life -- my Parents. Mom and dad are the two most courageous, caring, visionary people I have ever met; they are remarkable. They are what I call DreamMakers -- people who found the courage to put their vision and values to work to make their hopes and dreams come true in the face of tremendous obstacles. My parents have lived a long life; mom is 89 and dad is 88 years old and their character, courage, and commitment to their vision and values remains unwavering. Mom and dad came from very challenging beginnings. Mom lost her mother at the young age of seven and her father deserted her and her siblings. They were moved four times to different homes by the time she was ten years old. However, my ...
