In light of the times we are living, I feel compelled to share the the trailer to the film DreamMakers with you. The film was released in 2005.  It was produced by Banco Popular, co-directed by filmmakers Paloma Suau and Susan Koch, a nine time Emmy award winner. It is inspired by my book, DreamMakers: Putting Vision & Values To WorkThe film’s central message is about every person’s inherent ability to make dreams happen in their life and the lives of others. While produced by Banco Popular, it is not meant to represent any single philosophical perspective or organizational bias. Instead, like any work of art, its message will be interpreted uniquely by each person.

This is a film about hope, resilience and courage. It is meant to inspire people and communities to make their hopes and dreams happen. Now more than ever we all need to find the DreamMaker within us, to co-create a world where all people and the planet can flourish!

DreamMakers:  Synopsis

“This film is about who we are, what we convey to the outside world. We could invest in other media, but they do not have the depth to communicate what we believe in. We believe in making people and community’s dreams come true, not just Latino or African Americans, but all people and communities in search of the American Dream. We have Koran, Polish, and many more communities in pursuit of the American Dream – We are about helping communities realize their dreams. We hope this film will inspire and challenge people to hope and dream, and to work to realize their dreams and we want to
be a part of that – that is our legacy and our future”

Richard L. Carrion, Chairman and CEO Popular,

“This film changed me, changed my life” “I was a privileged, Puerto Rican “princess”. The process of making this film, transformed my life. I met Mario, his family; I went into the prison and was exposed to so much. My involvement with this film, Mario and his family, the Hunt family, the very special communities in the South Bronx, NYC and Humbolt Park, Chicago, has given me a very special vision and purpose that has enriched my life and my work as a film maker.

Paloma (Dove) Suau, FilmMaker, Director or DreamMakers

DreamMakers is a documentary about hope, intended for anyone seeking to create a better future. The very personal stories featured in this film are about struggle and triumph. It is about people who have the faith and courage to hold a positive vision for their future and turn their vision into reality, against tremendous obstacles.

The people in this film are diverse and unique in their own right; Puerto Rican, Mexican, African American and Caucasian. They are different ages; different cultures and
they hold different dreams however, what they share in common is far more powerful and important than how they differ.

Although the people in this film come from very challenging conditions, they have discovered the secret to breaking the cycle of cynicism and despair and turning chaos into opportunities. They embrace a special way of looking at life that seems to transcend culture, age and circumstance. They empower themselves by transforming the mindset of hopelessness into hope, optimism and possibilities. They show us we can pursue the American Dream, in spite of the barriers we face.

These stories teach us that our future lies not in our past nor our circumstance but rather in discovering who we intended to become, following our passion and fiercely holding on to our dreams.

This film is meant to inspire people, organizations and communities to make their dreams happen and make a difference in their communities and the world.
